Sonam Kapoor

India’s own fashionista Sonam Kapoor has been all over the news recently, so here’s looking at whether she managed to keep her own in the fashion department.

Sonam Kapoor wore a Victoria Beckham dress to a press meet to announce new show Superstar Santa. Well, I’ve never been a fan of Sonam’s acting or her supposed fashion sense. I feel she tries too hard and usually misses the mark. She doesn’t understand her own body proportion and usually ends up looking like a mess.

However, I absolutely love this Victoria Beckham dress. It has everything going on for her: the colour complements her skin tone, the length is perfect and the high boat neck accentuates her shoulders. Besides which, the white detailing on the dress is oh-so-luscious! The silhouette gives her the illusion of an hour-glass figure and that’s what works best. The accessories are kept minimal, to diamond studs and a rock on just one finger, so the look is classy and sexy at the same time. I love the nude sling back shoes and full marks for her hair, swept fashionably on one side, as well as her pink glossy lips and smoky eyes. Just one complaint — a French manicure would have taken the look to another level, but it’s still completely drool-worthy.

Sonam was also spotted on the sets of Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan and Malaika Arora Khan, and I like her mosaic-printed maxi, Shehlaa by Sheela Khan dress. It’s pretty; the big bold prints are interesting and suit her frame. The length does wonders for her tall frame and thankfully fits well. The boat neck again, works well. The outfit is nice, but frankly, it’s not wow, unlike the Victoria Beckham dress. What I do like is that despite her wearing a maxi dress, the look is still fresh and young.

Meanwhile, her accessories are banal. I don’t particularly care for the colourful statement ring and would love to throw out the red thread or beads around her hand. The silver sandals get pretty points, as does the gorgeous hair that adds volume to the dress, but the red lips do nothing for the actress. I like the fact that Sonam is embracing her curves instead of trying to fit into dresses that are two sizes too small. It’s a welcome change and we’re keeping a watchful eye on her for the future.
