Directed by David Ayer. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, Josh Holloway, Joe Maganiello, Mireille Enos, Olivia Williams, Harold Perrineau Jr

One of the stupidest films to come out of Hollywood yet and certainly one of Arnie’s worst, Sabotage is a film you don’t want to waste your time with.

I thought Arnie’s The Last Stand would be his last action film (perhaps with the exception of a new Terminator film, which I thought he’d just do with the help of CGI) but unfortunately that wasn’t to be. He seems to feel like he has to prove something. He’s only proving to us that he’s way too old now (66 years) to carry the big gun, break down the door or hold a movie on his Austrian Oak shoulders.

An elite team of DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) agents headed by John ‘Breacher’ Wharton (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has great success putting drug lords in prison until they decide to steal $10 million from a drug cartel, then lose the money and get investigated, put out of business and finally reinstated. But that doesn’t go well as they start getting killed off one by one.

There’s a reference to Breacher’s wife and son being killed by a drug cartel and you wonder if that’s part of the mystery. But the film give you no reason to care about these ‘fart heads’ being mown down by trains or nailed to ceilings. Even their own ‘family’ head Breacher seems to be completely unmoved when they die!

And they’re a strange bunch of F-bomb dropping, ass-dropping (farting) meatheads with ‘handles’ like Monster (Sam Worthington), Grinder (Joe Maganiello), Sugar (Terrence Howard) and Neck (Josh Holloway). What’s this American obsessions with these weird nicks? And there’s the foul mouthed Lizzy (Mireille Enos) who gives the men a run for their money with her vulgar and psychotic ramblings.

The freak show gets even freakier with a cop played by Olivia Williams who tries to find out why their all being killed off. In the bargain she sucks face with Arnie. Not a pretty sight and thankfully it lasts just a few seconds.

By the end of it all you’re wondering why they even bothered. Sure we guess that maybe one of the team has double-crossed them. And maybe Arnie isn’t as kosher as we’d like to believe. But with all the scatological humour, the fuck this and fuck that (mostly deleted by Indian censors while still getting an A rating!) and the sheer ridiculousness of it all, you just don’t give a fuck.

The finale seeks to explain the reasons for the murders but you wonder if a simpler solution didn’t exist for this character who put his hand up his ass to scratch his nose!

Terrible stuff this, and we seriously hope Arnie will chose something else for his next film (god forbid). Action just isn’t credible for him anymore and maybe, just maybe, he can go out with a bang rather than the whimper that is the clumsy, dull and stupid Sabotage.
