<Review by: Sailesh Ghelani>
Not a big fan of the film, which stretches the bounds of impracticality and believability beyond fantasy but the DVD is a little different.
Here’s our review of the film:
Whiplash – If it were a Chinese film, America would have cited human rights violations!
SPECIAL FEATURES
1. Whiplash Original Short Film
The movie was based on a short film made by Damien Chazelle. This 18-minute film ultimately makes it to the movie as a scene. But what is great about it is that the short film actually encapsulates the gist of the story perfectly and for me I would rather have just watched the short.
2. An Evening At The Toronto International Film Festival With Miles Teller, JK Simmons and Damien Chazelle
We at Minority-Review have covered TIFF a couple of times and it’s always a pleasure and so much fun. This feature is basically a Q&A session at TIFF with the cast and crew. We learn that they only shot for 19 days on the film but that created a ‘crazy energy’. JK Simmons was in the short film and was the only choice for the movie. Miles Teller was a drummer before but had to learn to play jazz as he has performed all the pieces in the film himself.
3. Theatrical Trailer
The film’s theatrical trailer depicts the torment of an artist and a frustrated teacher.
